Chapter Four Results and Discussion


4.1 Analysis of the Data from Pre-Test and Post Test
Before the trial, eighty-three students of the two classes (both of EC and CC)took an English writing examination called pre-test. Using the data analysis softwareSPSS,the author calculated the average scores,standard deviations and otherimportant data to determine the differences between the two classes in English writing.The average scores and standard deviation of words and expressions, grammar, andoverall layout of both the experimental group students and the control group studentsare in table 4.1.1 The data in table 4.1.1 show that judged by words and expressions, and grammar,the students of EC and CC almost have the exactly same average scores; and theoverall layout average score of EC is only 0.1 points lower than that of CC. What'smore,the three scores of Sig are 0.514, 0.688 and 0.681 which are much higher than0.05. Obviously, the students of the two groups have almost no difference at levels in English vocabulary, grammar and structure. Hence, it is concluded that before theexperiment, the students of EC and CC have the same level of English writing, andthe two groups can be compared in this study.

Conclusion


This paper explores the roles of recitation input in the teaching of English writingin high school via theoretical research, interview, questionnaire, and teachingexperiment of recitation. The results show that recitation input does help improve thelearners' language application ability. Besides, most students hold a positive attitudetowards recitation input strategy,which is time consuming but effective, and mostteachers also think recitation input approach play an important role in the teaching ofEnglish writing in high school.First things first,recitation input can help students enlarge vocabulary, mastergrammar, know sentence structure, and improve the accuracy and fluency of Englishwriting better and faster. It can help students speed up the second language learningmore effectively,especially in helping the students to master grammar, and improvingthe English thinking ability and the comprehensive ability. What's more, recitationinput approach can reduce the spelling errors.
