摘要:本文是一篇高中英语教学论文,本研究借助Halliday&Hasan以及Hoey相关的语篇衔接理论,结合高三学生的实际学习情况,将词汇衔接分为六类:简单词汇重复、复杂词汇重复、搭配、同义词、反义词与上下义关系。

2.1 Studies on Lexical Cohesive Devices in English Writing Abroad

Lexical cohesion,as one of the important mechanisms to achieve coherence,hasbecome a hot topic in the field of applied linguistics and discourse construction in recentyears.Halliday and Hasan defined it as“the cohesive relationship established by means oflexical choice,which is realized by certain adhesive ways and ties”(Halliday&Hasan,1976:275).The early research of lexical cohesion can be traced back to the British linguistHalliday(1962),who first proposed the concept of“cohesion”,which is divided intogrammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion,and is rooted in the category of semantics.In1976,Halliday and Hasan co-wrote English Cohesion,which sublimated lexical cohesion toa high level of textual thinking and did great good to the development of lexical cohesion.Halliday and Hasan(1976,1985)divided lexical cohesion into four categories:wordrepetition,synonym,hyponym,and lexical collocation.Subsequent studies emerge in anendless stream,with remarkable results.The discussion of lexical cohesion also presents amulti-level model due to the development of functional linguistics and text linguistics.Among them,Hoey(Hoey,1991:52-73)has more influence.He integrated lexical cohesioninto ten categories:simple word repetition,complex word repetition,simple mutualinterpretation,simple partial interpretation,antonymous complex interpretation,othercomplex interpretation,substitution,mutual reference,ellipsis,and deixis.In terms ofmethods,Hoey’s model is more creative than Halliday’s and Hasan’s,which provides a newmethod for analyzing lexical cohesion between sentences.Theoretically,Hoey’s detailedanalysis of lexical patterns in discourse emphasizes that lexical cohesion is more importantthan other cohesive devices;In terms of operation,Hoey’s matrix analysis of closelyconnected lexical cohesive devices accurately reflects the nonlinear and complex relationshipbetween them,which is more convenient for people to deal with and interpret theserelationships.

2.2 Studies on Lexical Cohesive Devices in English Writing at Home

Some initial progress has been made in China in the application of cohesion theory inwriting.Hu Zhuanglin(1994),in his monograph Cohesion and Coherence of Text,usedEnglish and Chinese language materials to elaborate from the aspects of transitivity,referential,structural cohesion and logical connection,and involved the issues of discoursestructure,and made a relatively comprehensive study of discourse cohesion and coherence,making a significant contribution to the study of discourse cohesion and coherence.

After searching and sorting out the literature in the past 20 years,it is found that therelevant research on cohesion theory in English writing in China is mainly focused oncollege students as the research subject,and less on high school students.This paper dividesthe relevant literature into two categories according to the levels and contents they involve:theoretical studies or empirical studies.
