IBO4004 Business Project (Full-time students)
1. Introduction
This document contains instructions and advice on how to approach the researching and writing of your Business Project. In general, the aim of writing a project is to bring theory and practice together to explore your hypothesis (or research question) and to draw conclusions from your analysis.
As each individual project is, by definition, a unique piece of work, it is impossible to give a precise indication of the content of each piece of work in this study guide. You should follow the advice given below when approaching your work. Keep these points in mind during your work and make sure that you discuss your progress with your supervisor at regular intervals.
The module leader for IBO4004 (Full-Time) Projects is Graham Wilkinson, room C305, phone 01604 892157, email graham.wilkinson@northampton.ac.uk . Details of his office hours may be found in the ‘Staff Information’ section of the Project’s NILE site.
2. Support for full-time students researching and writing a project
Support for your work on the project is available in several ways, these include:
• Material on the NILE site;
• Online and printed materials from learning resources;
• Learning resources staff;
• The module leader;
• Your supervisor (probably the most important source of help!); and
• A series of lectures and workshops for the first few weeks of each term; details of these will be given on the NILE site in a separate document.
3. Assessment Schedule – Key dates
There are three pieces of assessed work shown in bold below. These are the proposal worth 5% of the module grade, the intermediate literature review/ method worth 10% and the project itself worth 85% of the module marks. All three pieces of work will be marked in accordance with the assessment criteria below and the grade descriptors on the final pages of this guide. The assessment
strategy aims to test both breadth and depth of reading in the chosen topic.
