Conclusion


The relationship between culture and language has been explored since long time ago,and researches on it made by linguists and scholars of the old times or the present day havebeen diverse and fruitful. It’s not difficult to find books or papers on the internet, in thelibraries or bookstores that center around the subject of “culture” or “foreign languageeducation”. However, efforts must be made to find out theoretical precedents for teachingmaterial comparison based on cultural elements. Especially in Chapter 3 where thecomparison actually takes place, lack of theoretical support may cause lack of authority,for the whole process of comparison relies heavily on the available textbooks of NSEC andNSE, my understanding and independent interpretation of them, and my subjectivewillingness to share my opinions.
Since it’s a research from a cultural angle, Cultural elements are like footholds thatcarry the whole weight of the research. Each cultural element in consideration takes up aportion of the comparison and all of them together make up the core of the research. Butthe limitation of space and time makes it unpractical and infeasible to take all possiblecultural elements into this thesis. Only some of them are singled out to help implement theresearch, which may result in incompleteness and unfairness in the comparison of NSECand NSE. Moreover, this thesis pays full attention the compulsory part and overlooks theoptional part of the textbooks, which brings convenience to the comparison but can alsomake the defect of incompleteness seem more obvious. After all, the optional part is alsowell-related to culture.This research may be not mature in this way or that, but the efforts put into theexploration of this subfield of teaching material comparison are worthy of appreciation andacknowledgement. The importance of culture education during English teaching andlearning has been reiterated in the Curriculum Standards, which will, as I believe,encourage the research on cultural elements in teaching materials as well as comparisonbetween different versions of teaching materials.
