摘要:Teaching is a profession that demands teachers’ constant interactions withstudents. A teacher is supposed to be lively and enthusiastic all the time in orderto grasp students’ attention. Moreover, teachers are expected to ensure theorderly conduct of classes throughout the day, every working day.

oles,particularly during teaching in class. The suppression or expression of emotionsperformed by teachers is no accident, but influenced by many facets of stress,happiness, joy and things alike. Teachers in spite of their anger or disapprovalabout something someone has done, their disgust over something someone hasdone, and their fear of someone who appears threatening, must encourage theirstudents who are depressed or upset, remain calm when they are astonished, andshow sympathy or express friendly emotions when necessary, to their students.


Chapter Two Literature review


This chapter introduces the definition and explanation of emotion work andemotion work strategies, the previous research work on emotion work strategiesat home and abroad, that on job satisfaction at home and abroad, and that on therelationship between emotion work strategies and job satisfaction. In thischapter, the early work has been commented and suggestions for future researchhave also been given.


2.1 Emotion work strategies


2.1.1 Introduction of emotion work strategies
Emotion, as is argued, can be and always is subject to human inner heart.People often work on inducing or inhibiting certain feelings so as to render them“appropriate” to a situation. It is assumed that people feel gay at parties, sad atfunerals, and happy at the weddings. In some professions, particularly in theservice sector, dealing with customers or clients may require an employee topretend to express some emotions, suppress or hide some emotions. This is whatso-called “emotion work” or “emotional labor”. Before Hochschild, Goffman had suggested that people spend lots of effortsmanaging emotions --- that is acting. Thus, the concept of acting came intobeing. Later on, Hochschild (1983) helps classify acting into two kinds: surfaceacting and deep acting. Goffman fails to distinguish them and he obscures theimportance of deep acting.Surface acting means that employees strive to manage the visible aspectsof emotions that appear on the “surface” and which can be seen and felt by theinteraction partner, to bring them to abide by the organizational display ruleswhile their inner feelings remain unchanged. Surface acting means emotionaldissonance between the inner feelings and the outer expression. Surface actingis a problematic strategy.
