摘要:With the quick development of computer technology,middle school Englishinstruction has been required to adopt computer assisted language learning in thelistening and speaking classes,in which advantages of computer could be fiilly realizedby providing students with more vivid learning materials,adjustable schedule,controllable teaching procedure and effective learning assessment.

1. Introduction


1.1 Research background
As a basic language skill, listening is believed to be an efficient way to receivelearning information in the modem times. Listening plays a very important role in alanguage learner's development in other language skills such as speaking, reading, andwriting. Meanwhile, listening is a very efficient means of getting adequate linguisticinput for second language acquirers. It is an essential part for language acquisition andwe can put like this: there is no output without input in language learning. There is nodoubt that for a language learner, developing his or her listening competence is verybeneficial to his or her language acquisition. As we know, listening makes up a large partin our daily communicative activities. However,in China, less importance is attached tolistening in our English learning or teaching. Students spend much time practicing theirreading and writing, but seldom doing listening exercises. And teachers put much stresson training students' reading and writing skills. So, for most second or foreign languagelearners in China,their listening ability is weaker than their reading and writing abilities.Actually, listening plays a vital role in foreign language acquisition. Allowing for the roleof listening in everyday life,some researcher have pointed out that among the time anindividual has spent in communicating with others,approximately 9% time is devoted towriting, 16% time to reading, 30% time to speaking,and 45% time to listening. (Oxford1993). The data indicates that effective listening comprehension is one of the guaranteesto carry out successfiil communication and it should be considered as the most importantin English teaching.

1.2 Research objectives and significance


1.2.1 Research objectives
With the quick development of computer technology,middle school Englishinstruction has been required to adopt computer assisted language learning in thelistening and speaking classes,in which advantages of computer could be fiilly realizedby providing students with more vivid learning materials,adjustable schedule,controllable teaching procedure and effective learning assessment.Generally speaking, CALL can offer language learners quick access to the way inwhich native speakers use their language in authentic everyday situations.In order to find out advantages by using a new listening teaching mode based onCALL,an empirical study has been conducted Jiangxia No. 1 Senior High School,Wuhan, The writer tries to explore the distinctions between the two classes of students inlistening learning interest and motivation, the assessment of efficiency of listening class,as well as students' self-evaluation of listening competence and listening performance.The purpose of this paper is to explore and seek for a more effective listeningteaching mode based on CALL for listening teaching in senior high school so as to adaptto the trend of English teaching reform, improve English listening teaching quality, andfacilitate the up-to-date concept of English teaching.

2.1 Theory of CALL
CALL can be defined as the study of the applications of the computer technology inlanguage teaching and learning (Levy Michael,1997.)
