Examination of the relevance of Thomas-Kilman Schema and the change curve in the setting of geography-culture
1 Introduction
1.1 models
The change curve is used to describe the attitude when an individual faces with great change in his everyday life. The process is described as seven important stages which include shock, denial, turmoil, acceptance, experimentation, making meaning and integration. The Thomas-Kilman Conflict handing Mode Schema is designed to assess an individual’s performance when it confront the conflict situations. Five specific methods on dealing with conflicts are defined using two dimensions (the assertiveness and the cooperativeness), competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding and accommodating. These types of conflict handling are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Handling a conflict can potentially involve using a combination of the features. It is also the case that one type of conflict handling in a second stage can lead to another type.

The requirement of
essay:
This maximum 2000 word
essay invites you to make choices--both of focus and of contextual application:
Critically examine two of the models/approaches below(out of the five listed) for their relevance within an applied setting of practice of your own choosing. Your choice of setting for practice-application might be geographic-cultural; sectoral/instituional; organisational/vocational - or a combination of these. It is your choice, and you can critically examine your choice below of models/approaches in the same or different applied practice-settings.
Additionally, as part of your critical consideration above, explicitly address the larger question we have briefly referred to in class, of a so-called "Western" practice-context vs. a so-called "development" practice-context. What is your position on whether the models/approaches you are critically examining, which originate from a context in the West/North, are suitable within a so-called "development" context(outside of Northern/Western environments): in Africa/Asia or the Middle/Far east or Latin america or the Pacific Rim or the Caribbean basin, etc.?
In short, if the word "development" was removed from our unit title, would it make a difference? If so, how? If not, how not?
Substantiate and illustrate your views with reference to others'thinking and to your own experience, if appropriate. You are of course invited to raise larger issues, implications and questions arising from your critical examination to demonstrate your best Masters'-level thinking. These will attract additional marks if persuasively presented...
The five models/approaches from which you choose two are:
1. Goleman's Emotional competence framework
2. the change curve(from the work originally of Elisabeth KublerRoss)
3. the Thomas-Kilman Conflict handing Mode Schema
4. Heron's Six Category Intervention
