With all the mentioned HR issue prevailing in the US industries, there can be a risk of reduction in efficiency as well as the productivity of the Human resource in the industry due to which it can lose their competitiveness in the long run to their counterparts all round the world.
The business has gone global in the current time and world has become a global village. Any event happening in any part of the world has an effect on the global economy. And since US has the largest global presence, these issues become all the more important for US companies. With economy still not recovered fully, and major issue surfacing at the global level like currency war and chances of European countries like Ireland, Greece being at the blink of bankruptcy, US organizations have a daunting task ahead to bring back the economies of scale and at the same time increase the level of investors confidence and interest in their companies. Cost cutting is the buzz word these days and human capital is the area from where cost cutting generally starts. It is essential for HRM function to strategically cut the cost without having a negative effect on the employee morale. All the above mentioned issues can be aggravated in case of absence of a strategic move by the company.
In today's dynamic environment, it is very easy to replicate technology, manufacturing process or even human resource practices within any organization. The only thing which is almost impossible to duplicate is the work culture of any organization. Work culture is a term given to the environment at your work place (Clardy 2010).
Work culture is established in a company by the human resource practices that are being followed in the company. If we talk about any of the successful companies, the discussion can't be said to be complete without a mention of the work culture of the company. Apple, Google, Yahoo, all these big names epitomizes a perfect work culture. They have reached to their present ethos after addressing all the issues related to HR. Now, they have it aligned with their strategy, be it innovation or customer focus. This provides a strong reasoning to back the statement regarding a strategic investment in HR function and eradicating the HR issues prevailing in the organizations.
Human resource has been and can be a core competency of a company (Clardy 2010).
With service industries contributing a large chunk in the economy of countries now-a-days, HR has a larger role to play in providing a sustainable competency to companies since service industry have human resource as the largest portion of its capital. This further makes human resource as a function and strategic human resource management all the more important.
