摘要:We can get a conclusion from the experiment mentioned above that TVT-orientedapproach is useful in improving learners’ interest and translation comprehensivecompetence to some extent. Based on the above results, at here, I will talk about somequestions of how to apply TVT from the perspective of translation teaching. We can saythat it will be good for the translators by the application of TVT in the class. It couldsatisfy translators when they take part in social communication, at the same time, it alsois good for translation teaching itself. So we should research and teach more useful andnew translation theories and it will be useful for the development of translation teaching.

Chapter One Introduction

 

1.1 Research Background
With the globalization of the world economy and China’s entry into the WorldTrade Organization, China’s communication with other nations has been increasinglystrengthened. In various kinds of Sino-foreign activities, translation has been more andmore unavoidable, so how to educate a large number of high qualified Englishtranslators becomes the top task for translation teaching. Before the 1980s, translationactivities were mainly used in the field of literary works, academic works, religiouspropagandas and so on. The translations of these works should be faithful to the originalworks. Therefore, traditional translation theorists must follow the original text intranslation carefully, and only few of them paid attention to the differences of text types.Since the 21st century, great changes have taken place all over the world, includingtranslation studies. The importance of translation is improved with the establishment ofa new international community, the constitution of independent states and the formationof multinational companies. With the development of the world communication,translation plays an important part in the world. The original texts which are needed tobe translated are distinct, and diverse texts have diverse characteristics and standards,which require teachers to interpret in detail in the course of translation teaching.However, there are still some problems in current English translation teaching in ourcountry, especially the strategy of the TVT taught by teachers. As a result, students’translation abilities fail to meet the needs of the society.

 

1.2 Research Significance and Purpose
After reading the Syllabus for Vocational Colleges in 2000, we can know thatEnglish translation teaching is a basic requirement for vocational college students.Many students from vocational colleges will do their practice and will have a job insmall-sized companies, which often have business relations with foreign companies.And some students will be an English tour guide. This Syllabus can agree with theneeds of the society.Comparing with translation teaching in common colleges, translation teaching invocational college aims at improving students’ concrete translation competence ratherthan training professional translators.The main feature of translation teaching in vocational colleges is practicality.There are obvious difference between teaching senior English undergraduate majors,postgraduate translation majors and junior college students. Because various kinds oftranslation abilities are needed after graduation, translation should be a compulsorycourse for English major students in vocational college. Vocational college studentsneed to have the ability to pass PRETCO(Practical English Test for Colleges). As fortranslation part of PRETCO, students are asked to translate an English paragraph intoChinese. Translation ability is also emphasized in the book The Basic Requirements forVocational College English Curriculum. After reading this book, we can know thatstudents are asked to translate source text in the field of business or science, social lifeor others from English into Chinese and from Chinese to English with the help ofdictionaries.
