摘要:First of all this study attempts to define stance bundles in order to establish aframework within which data analysis is conducted. And then a classification ofstance bundles is necessarily figured out for the closer investigation of thecharacteristics of stance bundles.
Chapter Four Results and Discussion
4.1 General characteristics of stance bundles in COLSEC
This chapter reports the results in the order of the research questions proposed inchapter three. Section one describes the general characteristics of stance bundles usedby the Chinese college English learners in their speech. Section two compares the useof stance bundles between the Chinese college English learners and the nativespeakers. Section three reveals Chinese college English learners' speaking habits orfeatures according to the investigation of the noisy stance bundles. Section fourdiscusses the possible causes of the difference in use of stance bundles between theChinese college English learners and the native speakers. The percentage of 13.3% indicates that in every hundred words, learners used about13.3 words of stance bundles. It seems that learners expressed their stance quite oftenin their speech. However, it may run the risk of over-claim because the numeralinformation given in Table 4.1 does not explain anything until the type and categoriesof stance bundles and their distribution are examined for an overall picture of the useof stance bundles.According to Table 4.2, 22,008 stance bundles are identified in COLSEC, amongwhich there are only 592 different types and the type/token ratio reaches only 0.027.In other words, nearly 97.3% of stance bundles are repetitions, suggesting that learnerhave limited linguistic resources in their expression of stance.

Conclusion
The current study shows the general features of stance bundles used by Chinesecollege English learners in their conversation and has yielded the following majorfindings: on the basis of corpus data from COLSEC, this study has generated a list ofthree-word to six-word stance bundles that are frequently used by Chinese collegeEnglish learners. There are 592 types of stance bundles among which three-wordstance bundles have the largest proportion. And the proportion of stance bundlesdeclines as the number of words composing stance bundles increases. Generallyspeaking, Chinese college English learners have acquired the ability to express theirfeelings, attitudes and assessment by applying stance bundles in their speech. there are 10 categories of stance bundles used by Chinese college Englishlearner. Three of the most frequently used stance bundles are: likelihood bundlesexpressing the degrees of certainty or uncertainty; possibility/permission/abilitybundles predominantly containing the modal verb can; evaluation bundles showingthe speakers' assessment to the entities or events.
