As argued previously, the overall theoretical framework adopted in this study isConstruction Grammar., and this chapter, as the most important part, including foursections, will propose a constructional perspective to the delexical clause, and thuspursue a CxG-based account of the delexical construction. First, this chapter attemptsto analyze delexical constructions, which marked by have, take, make and give, and topresent their interaction mechanism between the verbs and constructions. Next, basedon the data collected from corpus, Section 4.3 will present their constructionalmeaning and the way for them to make collections. The third part will try to explainthe use of delexical construction from pragmatic perspective. And conclusion isbriefly drawn and three research questions put forward at the beginning of theresearch are briefly answered in each section.From previous present, it is clear that constructions have meaning independentof verbs. Moreover, constructions (or constructional schemas) may influence theinterpretation of lexical items as the components of a construction. AsJackendoff[48:553]claims, “constructions are syntactic configurations whose structurecontributes semantic content above and beyond that contained in the constituentlexical items”. Thus, for the purpose of this study, the range of syntactic realizationsin which the verbs occur has no attribution to the meanings of the verbs solely. As to afree-standing construction, according to Goldberg[9:54], the syntactic realizationattributes a recipient role that is not associated with a participant role of the verb.

Conclusion

This chapter mainly presents a brief conclusion of the research by illuminatingits major findings, limitations and some suggestions for the further research.Taking advantage of corpus approach and through quantitative and qualitativeanalysis, a thorough and detailed study on delexical construction is produced onprevious sections, and major findings of the research are briefly displayed as follows.Firstly, the thesis illuminates the interaction between delexical verbs anddelexical construction. As a construction, the meaning of it is composed by themeaning of the verb and the construction’s abstract meaning, the interactions betweendelexical verbs and constructions are actually the progress of fusion of roles. Becauseof the unique characteristic of delexical verb, that is taking little semantic meaning,the realization of the meaning of delexical construction is mainly depend son thesemantic meaning of eventive noun which may convert into the corresponding simpleverb in some degree. So to study a construction, the first thing is to study theoperation of its interactive mechanism.Secondly, with the aid of corpus, the thesis explores the constructional meaningof main delexical construction, and tries to sum up all the properties of eventivenouns demanded by the delexical construction, and the thesis find that collocates ofsome delexical verbs are of a certain trait and mainly belong to a specific category;Here presents the table 5-1 , it shows the basic usage of four different delexicalverbs in context, and the main classification of the eventive nouns which can co-occurwith give, make, have and take.
