摘要:本文是英语语言学论文,本文在黄师哲(2006)的基础上,在形式语义学和句法学的理论框架下,研究了汉语形名结构中形容词和“的”的语义类型。弥补了黄师哲理论的不足,丰富了汉语形名结构的研究,也为对外汉语教学提供了理论参考。

2.2 The Classification of Chinese Adjectives
The main stream of classification in Chinese adjectives can stem from Zhu Dexi(1956). Based on the characters and meaning of Chinese adjectives, He roughlydivides Chinese adjectives into two kinds: simple adjectives (SAs) and complexadjectives (CAs). And Huang Shizhe (2006, 2008) supports this division and appliesthis classification to analyze Chinese adjectives. However, this kind of classification is too complicate. Thus, for simplicity andscientificity, Zhu (1961) renames those adjectives from the aspect of co-occurrencewith noun and calls them as xingzhi xingrongci ‘attributive adjectives’ and zhuangtaixingrongci ‘temporary-state adjectives’ (Huang, 2006). Specifically, he groupsattributive adjectives as those in Jia1 and Jia2 which can distinguish meaning andindicate the category of noun, while temporary-state adjectives, such as those in Yi,show the state or modality of nouns (Huang, 2008; Zhu, 1961). Adjectives in Jia1have a strong solidification tendency with their modifiees, while the relation betweenadjectives in Jia2 and their modifiees is a temporary combination with obviousrestrictive effect.

Chapter Four Analysis of Semantic Types of de andAdjectives in Adjectival Modification
4.1 Introduction
In this chapter, each component of adjectival modification will be discussedrelatively. First, we assume that both simple adjectives and complex adjectives are oftype . Second, the syntactic structure of [A de N] combination will be presented. Then, according to Property Theory (Chierchia, 1985) and he-test, [A de] should be anominal element (He & Jiang, 2011b; Liu, 2011). As for the combination between [Ade] structure and common nouns, we will claim the type matching constraintproposed by Huang (2001, 2006) can perfectly explain the relation between [A de]expressions and nouns instead of [AN] expressions. Based on this constraint, werewrite a formula for the combination of [A de] structure and nouns. To de, we agreeHuang’s idea (2006) that it is a type shifter, and we can calculate the semantic type ofde by functional application. At last, based on the previous studies, we would like toshow that the expressions of [AN] structure may have two subcategories: [AN]compounds and [AN] phrases. There is a non-intersective reading in [AN]compounds while an intersective reading in [AN] phrases. As for the combination of[AN] phrases, we also work out a formula. Although [AN] compounds, [AN] phrasesand [A de N] phrases are of type e, their internal structures and semantic features arequite distinct.
