Language is the tool of communication, while listening is the most important part of Language communication and it is the basic path to understand others. Experts say："Listening is the activity of paying attention to and trying to get meaning from something we hear. To listen successfully to spoken language, we need to be able to work out what speakers mean when they use particular words in particular ways on particular occasions and not simply to understand the words themselves.''( 洪文军，2004 ) Many Chinese students do bad in this field, they find it difficult to get good mark in English listening comprehension ,especial in understanding the implied meaning of conversation. The teachers often speak of the four skills- listening, speaking, reading and writing. That means each of them is important. You can't say that you have mastered the language without any one of them. Listening, one of the means of language communication is used most widely in people's daily lives. About 45%of an adult's time concerns listening to other people, listening to the radio, listening to the music. I have done an investigation. About 43.2% of the students think that the most bothering and most difficult problem is listening comprehension, and even some of them have difficulty in understanding their teacher who gives lessons in English.

Listening plays an important role in students’ language learning. It is a complex process. In this article, the author has discussed the internal and external factors that affect English listening comprehension and has suggested some positive solutions to improve them. Students must first have a good command of linguistic knowledge, and develop a good habit of listening, taking notes while listening. teachers should spot out students’ problems during listening and accordingly, try to help them by giving pragmatics information, background knowledge, setting proper tasks in and out of class and design various and interesting activities to improve their listening teaching. However, there are still problems to be solved. Improving listening ability takes time and effort of both the teachers and students. Using the right learning strategies to enhance the efficiency of learning a hearing should not be overlooked in the role. Only Students understand all the factors affecting hearing can they find their own way; to listen to more material, to read more and expand their knowledge and understand the characteristics of language can they overcome the psychological problem to get a good result in listening.
