). An estimated 1.5 billion people now use these preparations worldwide (8). Based on the report from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Medicines & Health Products (CCCMHPIE), the TCM herbal medicine export is almost US$ 1.2 billion in 2007, which increased 8% from 2006. Depending on different definitions and calculation, Chinese herbal medicine represents 20–50% of the herbal medicine market share worldwide (9). In the year 2009, the export of Chinese medicine from China is 1.4 billion dollars, and during the five years from 2005-2009, there is about 0.1 billion dollars’ increase every year. The bright future of Chinese has attracted more people to engage in this industry.

In this dissertation, the target market for the research is UK market. The use of TCM has been in UK for hundreds of years, because of the historical connection between UK and Asia (especially Hong Kong). The consumers of TCM in UK are not only the Chinese, but also the native speakers. A lot of British hold open attitude to TCM, and many of them have tried TCM. The acupuncture is the only branch of TCM which was officially accepted in the west (10). The other Chinese therapies are also used in the Chinese clinics, such as the use of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM).

Actually, in China, CHM is the base of TCM, which consists of many herbal plants, even animal products and mineral products. The Chinese doctors always open the prescriptions which contain different herbs to treat the patients. Because of the restriction, most of the Chinese herbal medicines exported to foreign market are herbal plats, few animal and mineral products. The Chinese herbal medicine is the main products of TCM, which is categorized into three groups (11) raw herbal medicine (zhongyaocai), sliced herbs (zhongyaoyinpian), paten medicine (zhongchengyao). In China, the raw herbal medicines are from 561 herbal medicine centers, over 1,500manufactures produce sliced herbal medicines, and 684 manufactures produce pattern medicines (12).
