2. Literature Review


2.1 The Elements of Affect Factors
In the literature, the vocabulary "affect" can be used in various ways. It has beenexplained in different meanings and ways. Affectivity has different definitions when you usein different fields. Therefore, it is not easy to give a accurate definition of affect in a widelyfield. The author will present some in the following paragraph.Affect is comprehensively defined as: “the area covering feelings, emotions, mood andtemperament.” Gardner and MacInyre gave affect variables a definition as “those emotionallyrelevant features of the individual which have a influence on how she/he reacts to any cases.”The affect is commonly considered as the aspects of emotion, feeling, mood and attitudewhich create behavior by Arnold. The definitions are given by Wenden Apelt and HeikeKoerning in a total way. ”affective factors have impact on the whole process of languagelearning. Toward use it, as well as the foreign language atmosphere in general and the successof the learning and teaching process in particular. The parts stress on intensive andlanguage-activating emotions. The components which inhibit the negative emotions shouldpay more attention. According to Dulay, Burt and Krashen: “One’s affect toward a particular thing or action or situation or experience is how that thing or that action or thatsituation or that experience fits in with one’s needs or purposes and its resulting effect onone’s emotions.” According to the above definitions, it can be clearly showed that affect is asimportant as cognition in language learning. It has two ways to promote studying and hinderlearners' studying. A widely understanding of affect is the significant point in languagelearning.

2.2 Studies on Motivation and Interest


2.2.1 Motivation
Motivation is regarded as a very crucial point in language learning by many researchersand some even think that it is the most important determining factor in SLA success.Chomsky put forward the importance of energizing the motivation of language learning, “Infact, about 99% of the teaching is to make the students interested in materials” There’s nodoubt about that the importance of motivation to a second language through acquisitiontheory ,and we can understand that motivation is actually a group of factors that “energizebehavior and give it direction” Motivation is also commonly regarded as an inner drive, thrust,mood or desire that drives one to a particular action. In Ellis’s opinion, motivation quoted to“with one’s own need or desire, efforts that the language learners put into learning a secondlanguage.” Gardner put forward the most well-known and frequently quoted definition. It isdefined as “the extent to which the individual works or try to learn the language, because ofdesire and meet the needs in this activity experience. He refined this definition as “yearn toaccomplish a goal, effort stretched in this course and satisfaction with the mission” in 1993.John stone’s definition is that “a drive towards a goal.”
