5.1 Reflections
By translating The End of Education:Redefining the Value of School,thetranslator has accomplished four main objectives as planned.First of all,the translator has improved translation competence through thetranslation project.Secondly,the translator has produced a Chinese referenceversion of The End of Education:Redefining the Value of School.Thirdly,thetranslator has summarized some translation strategies for the similar type of writing.In addition,the translator has formed a glossary while translating.Last but not least,the translator has offered an innovative research angle for future use.
In the previous chapter,the translator listed several cases to analyze theselection and application of translation strategies guided by Reiss’s text typology inthe process of translation.It can be concluded that Reiss’s text typology has apositive guiding significance for the specific translation practice of this type ofmaterial.
First,Reiss’s text typology provides a clear translation idea for the translator tounderstand and analyze the original text,so that the translator can consciouslyanalyze the source text and decide the text type.Then the whole translation practicecan be carried out more smoothly.
Second,since the text type has been determined before the translation practice, specific translation strategies can be chosen more flexibly and directly in theprocess of translation.There is no need to worry too much about comparingbetween free translation and literal translation,or choosing between domesticationand foreignization.As long as it is a translation approach that can achieve the effectof the text type,it can be used appropriately.
Third,since Reiss’s text typology has a positive guiding significance for thisbook,when translating materials of the similar type in the future,the translator canrefer to this theory to guide translation practice by first determining the text type,and then choosing the appropriate translation strategies in accordance with thecorresponding text type.
