The model shown in Figure 2.2, presents a generic model for creating and managing business improvement initiatives. The model argues that each improvement initiative needs a performance objective supported by a set of performance measures, with each measure attracting a performance expectation of the desired level of performance. But what business improvements do companies require? 6.4 Summary
Planning a new project, whether it be a new change programmed, or an innovative strategically aligned IT system, requires a careful set of processes to be undertaken. These processes must include definitive measures for subsequent evaluation; otherwise the analogy of “the blind leading the blind” can often ensue. Evaluation requires considerable time and effort – the process of which is typically divided up into four discreet parts: the setting of goals; collecting the data; analyzing the results; and presenting the findings. If any of these processes are curtailed or not given the attention they deserve, the actual findings themselves will have little bearing on the analysis, and will undoubtedly be meaningless.

From an IT implementation perspective, the process of evaluation is crucial for all subsequent IT projects.
