　　1.2 The Organization of This Thesis论文结构
　　This thesis consists of six chapters, and the structure is as follows.Chapter One is the introduction to the thesis, including the objective, significanceand the organization of this thesis.Chapter Two is the literature review, which mainly presents respectively the studiesof the premodifiers and APPs from the perspective of traditional grammar, thepragmatic perspective and the perspective of cognitive grammar.Chapter Three illustrates the theoretical foundation for the analysis in the followingchapters. In this chapter the Prototype Theory and the theory of Categorization areintroduced briefly, and then the notion of subcategorization and its relationship withpremodifiers in noun phrases are explained in detail to lay a foundation for the studiesin Chapter Four and Chapter Five.Chapter Four discusses the categorical status of APPs. It is proposed that theboundary of the Past Participle Category is fuzzy. APPs belong to both the verbcategory and the adjective category, but they share different categorical statusrespectively.Chapter Five devotes to presenting a comprehensive analysis of the constraints onthe use of APPs in English noun phrases in terms of subcategorization. According to thedifferent uses of APPs, this chapter is divided into three sections to make clear thecognitive reasons.Chapter Six is the conclusion of this thesis, with the main findings of this studyand implications for further study.
