Conclusion


Undoubtedly, this paper is far from perfect because of the restrictions of time, energy andsubjects. The limitations are pointed out as follows:
First, for practical reasons, the number of the Chinese learners of English whoparticipated in the experiment is limited. Therefore, the results discovered in the present studycan only present part of the whole developmental process. And because of the difficulty, theresearcher failed to obtain any native speakers' Reference. So it can not have a definite andpractical answer to the question: Are the semantic associations between words in the L2mental lexicon different systematically from those of native speakers? So the native speakers,the English learners of Chinese and the Chinese learners of English could all be invited toparticipate in the word association test in the later studies.
Second, different prompt words are sure to bring out different results. All the promptwords just have one meaning in this study.
