Abstract
In the past decade, with the development of economic globalization and China’s accession to the World Trade Organization, China’s foreign business activities, especially the activities with western countries, go more and more frequent.
As the rapid development of the economic and technology, business English correspondences become an important part in the international trade activities. Business English correspondences are treated as an important tool of establishing business relationships and conducting business transactions with the westerns, having been widely used and universally recognized. In addition, business English correspondences build a communication bridge for trade both sides to pass the various related business information precisely. This paper mainly discusses the characteristics and functions of business English correspondence and its roles in foreign trade. Many examples are used to illustrate these points. Wish this paper will help those foreign trade workers get more knowledge on business English correspondence and be more skillful in business communication.

摘要
在过去的十年中，随着经济全球化的发展以及中国加入世界贸易组织，中国与西方国家的商务活动也变得越来越频繁。
世界经济和信息技术快速发展，商务英语函电已经成为对外贸易中不可或缺的重要组成部分。而在与西方人交流往来的过程中，商务英语函电作为建立业务关系和促成贸易往来的重要工具，得到了人们的普遍重视。除此之外，商务英语函电在对外贸易中为双方沟通交流搭起了桥梁,准确地传递双方的各类相关的商务信息。本文主要从商务英语函电的特点、功能、及其在对外贸易中的作用等方面进行了讨论，并列举了大量例子进行论述，使从事对外贸易活动的人员获取更多关于商务英语函电的知识，使其在对外贸易活动中能够熟练地进行交流。

Introduction
Business correspondence includes enquiries, replies, quotations, offers and counter offers etc. All of these aspects can provide the information, dealing with the relative affairs, and promote communication of trade both sides. Business correspondence has some more useful functions. Effective written communication is one of the most important and valued skills in foreign trade. With the increasing development of technology, written document can be in the mode of voice-mail, telegram and telex, but the most common use of this skill is business English correspondence. First, it improves the efficiency of the international trade works and reduces the cost. Second, more and more new customers can be found through it. Then, they can establish the further business relationship with each other. Third, it can promote the international trade economy. Fourth, it achieves the international trade globalization.
This thesis aims to explain the function of the business correspondence to the international trade. From different channels, trade both sides can understand each other directly and clearly. International trade includes goods trade, technology and trade in services. Business correspondence remains the evidence which can be used in dissolving the trade disputes. So, it is essential for trade both sides to do the transactions through the media of business correspondence. Then, with this tool, international trade goes more and more smooth. It do good to the trade both sides when they are doing transactions.
