The purpose of your report is to rigorously analyse the foreign exchange risk exposure of your company, and its approach to risk management. In particular, your report should address the following questions.

1. As an introduction you should provide a brief profile of your company, giving the business description, geographic locations for production, sales and any subsidiaries, the different currencies that the company uses and any other aspects relevant to international financial management. [20 percent]

2. Should a multinational firm hedge foreign exchange rate risk? If not, what are the consequences? If so, how should they decide which exposure to hedge? Should shareholders care whether firm hedges or not, why? [20 percent]

3. From the company’s financial statements and annual report (which can be downloaded from the company’s website), identify the different types of foreign exchange risk exposure of the company. What is the company’s foreign exchange hedging policy? Describe and explain the details of this policy. Do you think the hedging policy is sufficient to cover the exchange rate exposure of the company? Why or why not?

4. Provide some evidence on whether the shareholders of the firm are exposed to the foreign exchange risks. Interpret this evidence in light of the company’s hedging policy. Provide a quantitative measure of shareholder risk if possible. For example, you could estimate relationship between the company’s share price and the relevant exchange rate.

5. How does the company make use of international financial markets?
What are the threats and opportunities for the company’s use of international financial markets? [20 percent]

Note: The report should draw upon the firm’s financial statements, annual report for 2007 (which can be download from the link provided above), and other published company information. Additionally you should draw upon other sources such as the financial press, the internet and published literature.

This is an individual assignment, the length of which must not exceed 4,000 words excluding tables and diagrams. You must reference any material you have used at the end of your report.
