摘要:本项研究的对象是复合材料,针对性地做了一些测试,来了解它在结构、性能方面的特点,关于它在生活及科技方面的应用做了陈述。
two rail shear test machine and the specimen to be tested are manufactured as per the ASTM standard. Glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) is selected as specimen to test with the two rail shear testing machine. Glass fibre reinforced plastic is one of the important composite materials which have variety of applications. The initial use of GRP was in United Kingdom and the United States in 1942 for the manufacture of aircraft radomes. GRP boat hulls were made in the United States as early as 1946 and a seaplane float and similar mouldings had been made in Britain by 1947[7].
Glass fibres in one form or other have been known since about 1500 BC. In the Egyptian XVIIIth Dynasty small glass vases were made by taking a clay form in a cloth bag and fixing this to a stick and rotating it in a molten glass until the desired shape is produced. In 1860s a woven glass garment was presented to a Spanish princess, but the fibre was too coarse to allow the garment to be folded. Glass fibres of satisfactory quality and consistency for reinforced plastics were not available commercially until the 1930s. Polyester resins are the first of the many synthetic resins which are now the basis of plastics industry [7].
1.2目的和目标-1.2 Aim and Objectives
1.2.1 Aim
The aim of the project is to conduct a detailed study of composite materials, to carry out detail study on the manufacturing of composites and to do a detail study on the testing of the composite materials.
The purpose of this project is to understand the composite material manufacturing and their testing to determine the characteristics of the composite material under various applied loads. The in-plane shear characteristic of the composite material is investigated in this project.
Among the various types of composites available, glass fibre is selected as the specimen. The test used here in this project is the two rail shear test. For the manufacturing of the test specimen, hand lay-up method is used.
To arrive at conclusion; graphs are drawn using the values obtained from the tests. The results are analysed and compared. After the analysis of the result recommendations are made from the obtained results for further improvement of the test.
1.2.2 Objectives
To conduct a detailed study on composite materials to determine the material to be used for the testing
To conduct a detailed study on the test methods used to find the in-plane shear properties of the composite materials
To select a test procedure for the testing of the composite material. Two rail shear test fixture is chosen for the testing.
To choose a composite material for the test. Glass polyester is chosen as the specimen.
To install the strain gauges on the specimen to get the strain values under tensile loading condition.
To tabulate the strain values obtained from the computer to determine the characteristics of the specimen.
To analyse the specimen from the graph drawn using the values tabulated.
To discuss about the results obtained after the applied tensile load and draw a conclusion based on the discussion.
To mention far superior test method than the method used in this report based on the results obtained.
