The delegated nursing assistants are responsible and accountable for the healthcare activities. The registered nurses have to ensure the health care is accomplished as expected and give proper supervision to the nursing assistants. Supervision is an important part of delegation process, which the registered nurses should offer direct or indirect healthcarewhen needed in the assignments, including directing , monitoring, guiding and evaluating the assistants’ performance (Siegel, Young, Mitchell, & Shannon, 2008). Nurses have to monitor the consumers’ health status and read the reports presented by the assistants. They also have to respond to the questions and feedback delivered by the nursing assistants in time (Siegel et al., 2008).
Another essential part of the delegation process is evaluation. The registered nurses have to answer the following questions. Whether the delegation activities performed correctly and meet the health consumers’ expected needs by the nursing assistant or not. Are there any needs to change the assignment or the nursing assistants? Are the communications, directions and supervision effective and timely for the assistants? Are there some improvements for the next delegation in nursing practice of registered nurses? The registered nurses retain the responsibility for direction and evaluation of the objective and unexpected outcomes of delegation. By reflection and summarization of the delegation process, the nurses are able to manipulate these import skills and guidelines (Croxon&Maginnis, 2009).
As a nursing student, I have learned a lot from the guideline. This guideline set standard behavior for my nursing practice and provide guidance on direction and delegation of healthcare. And it can be used to reduce my incorrect activities in clinical practice to promote the quality of healthcare.And it taught me the importance of learning the professional knowledge and nursing skills, which can be used to judgment the consumers’ health status and make decision to direct and delegate.I must to choose suitable healthcare assistants, who meet the standard in clinical practice and are accountable for a scope of limited healthcare practice according to their capability and experience.This guideline is also systematically developed to assist me tocooperate with other professionals, direct or delegate the healthcare to enrolled nurses, or healthcare assistants. As a registered nurse in clinical practice, I have to monitor the status of healthcare activities. If there was something inappropriate or changed, I ought to communicate with the healthcare assistants effectively and provide some extent of direction and supervision. As a registered nurse, it’s my responsibility to provide substantial scientific and professional knowledge or skills to the delegated nursing assistants(Nursing Council of New Zealand, 2012).
This assignment has discussed about the relationship of direction and delegation guidelines with nursing practice of the registered nurses in New Zealand. The registered nurses have to develop the delegation skills and decide appropriate nursing practice by their knowledge and experience. Nurses mus
