摘要:Hidden curriculum, of various forms, it is an abundantliving teaching material which varies with schools, teachers andstudents. In hidden curriculum, students can not only learnCollege English, but also experience the education in theattitude, individual character, inclination, etc

In College English teaching, teachers should take variouskinds of methods to make full use of the positive functions ofhidden curriculum to obtain desirable effects.Teachers should recognize, partly accept the hiddencurriculum and give relevant guidance to those who with thehidden curriculum to help them achieve desirable effects inCollege English leaning. Until learning states are acknowledgedor the learners and teachers are aware of them, a hiddencurriculum remains hidden and could not be utilized.Adopt stimulating education, set up a set of systems ofrewarding study in order to wake students' subjectconsciousness up, enable student to redouble one's efforts andmake constant progress, because there are values, dispositions,and social and behavioral expectations that bring rewards inschool for students and that learning what is expected alongthese lines is a feature of the hidden curriculumBuild a variety of College English learning environments,like campus environment (set up English radio station, Englishsalon, various English contests), class environment (make classsituation play, set up books corners), network environment(build network English study garden), etc. to improve students’English unconsciously and implicitly.Reform the English examination system.Focus on theoutput of learning English such as speaking and writing part invarious English contests or tests to change the phenomena of "dumb English " and “deaf English”.Hold study competition properly, strengthen theextracurricular activities, such as English Salon, English corner,English party, presentation of English learning experience,watching English movies & TV, homework exhibition of Englishstudy ,etc., to promote the enthusiasm of English study byutilizing the stimulating function of hidden curriculum.Make the content given in class enlightening, fascinating;Make English classroom varied and lively, like arranging somelanguage games when necessary and fully utilizing themultimedia in teaching to improve students’ interest in Englishlearning.Make student's independent thought active, in order todevelop their interest in English. Encourage students toparticipate in the language activity in class and stimulate themto use the target language to express ideas boldly.Let students know more about the culture of the Englishspeaking countries to improve the interest in learning Englishand exert a subtle influence on students’ ideology and culturedevelopment in English teaching.Use role playing to teach good manners in EnglishTeaching. Teaching ESL students what is considered goodmanners is a very important part in hidden curriculum, forhidden curriculum emphasized specific skills: learning to waitquietly, exercising restraint, trying, completing work, keepingbusy, cooperating, showing allegiance to both teachers andpeers, being neat and punctual, and conducting oneselfcourteously. These features of school life and requirements forconformity to institutional expectations had little to do witheducational goals, but were essential for satisfactory progressionthrough school. Role playing, teacher modeling, peer modeling,and video are all good tools for teaching these social skills,like, how to give and receive compliments, to thank someonefor something, to answer the telephone, to ask directions, andto make small talk. Have students learn how to observe theirpeers for models of correct behavior and set expectations fortheir behaviors.
