Chapter Four Results and Discussion
4.1 Results and Discussion of Art Students’ Reading Proficiency
This section will present a general analysis of the data collected from pre-test and post-testin EC and CC. Meanwhile, it will put possible interpretations on the further discussion of theeffects of the new teaching methods on students’ reading proficiency. Table 4.2 clearly shows the significant difference (sig.) of Levene’s Test for Equality ofVariances is 0.676(>0.05), which indicates that the variances of the pre-test of the two classes areequal, and conclusions can be made that the students in EC and CC share the same Englishproficiency before the experiment.What’s more, “equal variances assumed” is used to data analysis, to find out that sig.(2-tailed) is 0.428 (>0.05), implying no significant difference between the mean scores of thetwo classes.From the data analysis above, it’s easy to draw the conclusion that the students’ readingproficiency are closely at the same level at the very beginning of the experiment.

Conclusion
On the basis of reviewing the theories related to the task-based language teaching andimplicitly-graded teaching through the experiment, some major findings are summarized asfollows:
1. TBLT under implicit grading is a powerful teaching instruction to promote art students’reading proficiency. Besides, it is testified to be more effective than the traditionalteaching model, which is demonstrated by the contrast of test scores of the art studentsin the pre-test and the post-test.
2. TTBLT under implicit grading plays an important role in cultivating art students’interests in English reading, which is also testified by the contrast of the results of thequestionnaire.
The interview referred to in this thesis is also introduced as a supplementof the experiment to give its proof.These findings are sufficient enough to manifest the effectiveness of TBLT in Englishreading teaching of art majors under implicit grading.
