n the attractiveness and effectiveness of College English curriculum is the main topic of College English teaching. The purpose of this research is aiming at the disadvantages of traditional teaching methods, through the application of PBL teaching method in College English teaching, we can put the theory knowledge into practical problems and the specific practice. PBL teaching method, also known as the problem based learning and a kind of teaching
strategy. It is shown through problems in the real situation to stimulate students’ new knowledge learning ability and improve the ability of solving problems. It is up to the role of guide, education and teacher. Students can improve their ability to solve problems and analyze problems through learning process.

Chapter 1 Literature Review
1.1 Concept of PBL and PBL College English Teaching
PBL is a term that originated in John Dewey’s theory which is about learning in practice. William Heard Kilpatrick (1918) who is the student of Dewey put forward PBL (Feng Da-ming, 2004). Thomas Markharm standards-focused PBL as a systematic teaching method that engages students in learning knowledge and skills through an extend inquiry process structured around complex, authentic question and carefully designed products and tasks. Popular to say, this method needs students to complete the whole process of exploration with answer and resolve a complex problem. This process not only helps students to grasp the key content of the subject but also exercise the new skills of students. PBL teaching method is also called the problem based learning, at the same time, it is also known as a learning strategy. This method is show through problem in the real situation to stimulate students in learning new knowledge, improve the ability to solve problems, provide students problem solving provides new resources, play a guide role, so that the students in the learning process to improve its analysis of the problem and solve the problem ability(Zhou Yan-ling,2006). Problem based learning provides an ―Ill-Structure‖ problem before students learning. Under this method, the whole process of learning requires students to deeply explore, to find the problems and issues, to analyze the complexity of the problem and use all these knowledge to find the answer.
