摘要:Reading is an essential and important skill for students of English as a foreign language,and it is basic to the development of listening, speaking, writing and translating for students.Therefore, the teaching of reading is a very important part in English teaching and alwaysplays a very significant role in English classroom teaching. However, the current readingteaching in China mainly follows the “grammar-translation” teaching model and thedeficiency is obvious, the reading class is often centered on the teachers who use the linear“knowledge imparting” teaching process and regard the students as knowledge receivers, soalthough many students learn some vocabulary and grammar, they lack the ability to readbetween the lines, and understand the text theme and the intention of the writer.

1.3 Significance of the Study
Reading ability is one of the most important signs to measure English level, so teachersare supposed to seek new ways to help students become effective readers in the process ofreading teaching. But until now, most English reading teaching study in China is concernedwith four-year college students, little research has been done on vocational college students.So, this thesis studies intertextuality theory featured by application worth, it aims to set up anew appropriate model for vocational college English reading teaching by applyingintertextuality theory into the practical reading teaching, it is hoped to be helpful to Chinesevocational students to develop their positive English learning interest and attitude, to improvetheir English proficiency and helpful to vocational college English teachers to create an activeand efficient classroom environment. After the experiment is completed, the students areexpected to use the language as a means to deal with the relevant English materials in theirprofessional field. It is also expected to encourage more researchers pay attention tovocational college English reading teaching in the long run.

 

1.4 Organization of the Thesis
The thesis consists of the following six chapters:Chapter one is a brief introduction to the whole thesis, analyzing the current situation ofvocational college reading teaching, the significance and the purpose of the research. ChapterTwo mainly focuses on the theoretical framework of the theories of intertextuality and readingteaching concerned. In the first place, it gives an overview of intertextuality and therelationship between intertextuality and text, and then it shows the origin and development ofthe intertextuality at different historical stages. The introduction of these theories lays afoundation for the following discussion and experiment in the study. Chapter Three presentsthe methodology of the study. Chapter Four presents a model on Intertextuality theory inreading practice, it gives a detailed description of the experiment. It is to test the feasibility ofthe application of intertextuality to reading teaching and its effectiveness. Chapter Fivepresents an analysis based on the data collected from the pre-test, the mid-test and thepost-test. The last chapter is a summary of the whole thesis, which sums up the major findingsand implications both for teachers and students. The author also proposes some dimensionsfor further research.
