摘要:This paper intends to compare the English writings written by non-English majorsand English majors in order to find out the similarities and differences in their use ofchunks. The study also examines the relationship between the use of chunks and thewriting proficiency of Chinese learners of English, that is, to find out the extent to whichwriting proficiency and the use of chunks correlate.

Conclusion


Despite the possible limitations of this study, it does present a picture of therelationship between chunks using beliefs and strategies by Chinese learners of English, and the relationship between the use of chunks and the writing proficiency. It alsoenlightens us that there are several areas which deserve further research as a continuationof the present study.Firstly, this study only places stress on the role of chunks in writing. In order to havea more thorough understanding of the nature of chunks to provide more basis on ourlanguage acquisition, the role of chunks in listening, speaking, reading and translationcan be researched.Secondly, this study does not deal with the errors made in chunks so that a furthererror analysis can be made to explore chunks.Thirdly, a further study on other kinds of discourses can be made to examine therole of chunks in English learning.
