e comfortably embrace their own cultural and ethnic differences. I believe that sharing firsthand knowledge about one's background is a great way to engage students in learning about diversity. It is in the educator's hands to enable cultural and ethnic discussions by creating a positive and open classroom environment. As a teacher, I would encourage students to incorporate their ethnicity into their assignments wherever relevant, and I would encourage students to form and partake in cultural clubs at the school and in the community. As well, if a particular country was in the news, for example because of an earthquake, I would encourage students from that country to explain firsthand how this disaster has affected their country.

At the age of 16 I traveled to Cuba for several weeks. The extensive poverty in Cuba will be permanently etched in my mind. Traveling throughout the country and visiting different villages allowed for me to get a true sense of the poverty and despair experienced by many inhabitants. Seeing homes without proper windows, and children hanging their heads out of them in order to get some air was upsetting and unjust. While I was in Cuba, the category 4 Hurricane Denis struck and caused devastating destruction. Being in lockdown in a hotel for several days I became very close with many of the employees, all of which had no way of community with their families and all of which who were deeply affected by the hurricane. Seeing the suffering and the agony of the locals made it clear to me that where a person comes from and what they have experienced greatly shapes them.

This caused me to realize that diversity of teachers and learners is an asset for learning from several reasons. Because people are shaped by where they come from and what they have experienced, each person brings with them something unique. Diversity of teachers and learners creates a classroom environment in which unique personal knowledge can be spread.

Diversity bring a variety of bavkgrounds and experiences which means a great understanding and acceptance of diversity.

This experience shaped my understanding of the responsibility I have to advocate for equity and fair solutions for communities that have been marginalized through poverty or other social barriers.

I believe that diversity of teachers is an asset to learning as they are able to share their cultural and ethnic differences with their students; this essentially allows their students to learn about other cultures without having to open a book. They can hear stories of their upbringing and draw comparisons to other cultures and ethnicities. In my experience, I find that children are always especially curious about learning more about their teachers and their ethnic backgrounds. For example, when I was a volunteer at William Tredway P.S., the teacher was of Irish and Italian ancestry and the kids were always very inquisitive and attentive when she spoke of her family. More specifically, she would speak in an Irish accent, impersonating her mother of things she used to say to her when she was little. The kids loved it! I feel that when a teacher shares her ethnicity it makes the children feel more comfortable about their own ethnic and cultural differences. As Canada is such an ethnically diverse country, there is no better place for论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
