esearchers can examine the relative effects of explicit-implicitonline CF and explicit, offline CF through the comparison of these two different types of CF.
In this paper, the empirical study has systemically compared the effects of four different typesof CF on the acquisition of one linguistic feature (past tense forms) by adult intermediateEnglish-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) learners.This article investigated four types of CF (a) oral recasts,(b) oral metalinguisticcorrection, (c) written direct correction, and (d) written metalinguistic correction. It was theEnglish past tense forms that the four different CF types focused on. This study compared twodifferent CF types within the written and oral media: (a) written direct, and writtenmetalinguistic correction and (b) oral recasts, and oral metalinguistic correction, respectively.How the medium influences the effect that CF has on learning will be examined in this article.By investigating the efficacy of four individual feedback types on L2 learning, the currentstudy may present a new analysis and afford new insight.


1.2 Structure of the thesis
This thesis is composed of five parts. Chapter! is introduction, which makes a briefdescriptive presentation of the whole study,the significance and objective of the study as wellas the structure of the theses. Chapter2 is literature review that presents definition, patternsand role of corrective feedback; oral and written corrective feedback and the distinctionsbetween oral and written corrective feedback; previous studies and past tense forms inEnglish. Chapter 3 concerns methodology, with the research questions, subjects, procedures ofthe study included. The following part is chapter 4 that covers the results collected from theexperimental study which are analyzed and discussed,and the factors concerning the resultsare discussed here too. Chapter 5 is the conclusion of the whole thesis, including the summaryof the findings, some pedagogical implications and the limitations, and recommendations ofthe study.


Chapter Two Literature Review


This chapter firstly presents the definition, patterns and role of corrective feedback in thefirst part. And focus on the oral and written corrective feedback respectively, and thedistinctions between oral and written corrective feedback. Then the writer discusses the pasttense forms in English. Finally the writer summarizes the part of literature review.


2.1 Corrective Feedback


2.1.1 Definition
Many researchers have already examined on the role of corrective feedback,which hasaroused many debates. But even the "corrective feedback" itself has caused many researchersto study on it, which is due to the fact that this term is not the only one that has been widelyused in error-identification and corrective feedback provision. Negative evidence and negativefeedback are also widely used to refer to the term "corrective feedback”. Due to the fact thatthese terms can easily lead to confusion, the first thing that this introductory part should dealwith is inevitably a brief introduction to the terminology of these terms.
