Chapter Four RESULTS AND DISCUSSION 

The  present  chapter  is  elaborated  from  the  following  aspects.  First,  it  aims  to make  a  contrastive  analysis  of  generic  structure  of  English  research  articles  on Material  Engineering  written  by  native  Chinese  writers  and  native  English  writers. Second,  the  findings  concerning  similarities  and  differences  are  discussed  and delivered in terms of occurrence frequencies and content of move-step constituents in three  main  sections  of  research  articles  in  both  corpora.  At  last,  the  results  will  be interpreted  from  the  following  tentative  reasons:  firstly,  the  degree  of  genre consciousness;  secondly,  writing  habits  in  English  and  Chinese  academic communities;  thirdly,  different thinking patterns  between English  people and Chinese people.   

4.1 Contrastive Genre Analysis of the Overall Generic Structures of Research Articles between Both Corpora 

With  the  thriving  development  of  ESP  genre  analysis,  Swales  (Swales,  1990) proposes that the fundamental components of research articles consist of Introduction, Method,  Results  and  Discussion.  Introduction  section  is  a  preparatory  section  in  a research  article  in  which  it  aims  to  introduce  the  topic  and  capture  the  reader‘s interests.  Generally  speaking,  Method  section  of  a  research  article  intends  to  state clearly  the  specific  research  procedure.  The  Results  section  attempts  to  illustrate  the details  about  research  findings.  Finally,  as  to  the  Discussion  section  of  a  research article, it deals with the evaluation of the results.

CONCLUSIONS
