3.3 Anne and Her Attitude towards Woman’s Sense of Independence.
Anne had a very short life. She believed that the entire real story could teach us; just write the real life, all the reader who can distinguish right form wrong could judge what is right. Most of her characters were the women at the bottom of the society. She described their life, marriage, and job problems. She described that most of the women were chasing for independence, equality, and respect.
3.3.1 Her Life Experiences
Anne Bronte was born on 17 January 1820 at number 74 Market Street in the village of Thornton, Bradford, Yorkshire County, England. She was the last child born to Maria Branwell (1783-1821). She was just as her sisters, clever, full of passion in writing, brave and independence.
Like her sisters Charlotte and Emily, Anne did not want to be a financial burden to her father and looked for a way to contribute to the household income. As an educated daughter of the village curate in the Victorian period, it was easy for her to obtain a respectable position as governess after she finished school. At first, she experienced difficulties with the undertaking, dealing with unruly children who were resistant to learning. Her few months at Blake Hall provided fodder for her future novel Agnes Grey (1847).
She worked as a teacher for almost seven years, much longer than her sisters. During these years, she got the chance to know the upper class, to got better understanding of their thoughts, and also find out various evil face of the society. Then her brother Branwell abandon himself to wanton ways made her suffer a lot of pressure. And the dream—to start a school—of three Bronte sisters became bubble. Her health became worse. She died at the age of twenty- nine. The last word she said to charlotte was told her to be brave.
As the thesis said, her work—Agnes Grey—was a biography. So let’s see her work and the characters.

This story also showed a quiet but sharp critique and satire of the class life of the times. Bronte's style had been described as gothic but realistic rather than romantic, and similar to Jane Austen, the work shown her chasing for independence.
