Chapter Five Findings and Discussions

This chapter mainly deals with the analysis and discussion of the collected data. By doing so, tworesearch questions can be answered, which are“Can recitation-imitation help to improve vocationalstudents’ English practical writing proficiency?” and “Can recitation-imitation change vocational students’attitudes toward English practical writing ?” The first part is a quantitative study and the correspondingdata were collected. And the comparison between the pretests and the post-tests can examined whetherimitation-recitation teaching method can effect positively on the EC. The second part deals with the datafrom the perspective of qualitative study.The questionnaires from the pre-questionnaire andpost-questionnaire were analyzed in this part and students’ attitude towards English writing was given inthis part. At last,the author presented the findings of interview.

5.1 Analysis of the Tests

The students’ practical writing proficiency was reflected and evaluated by the tests scores. Thecomparison between the pretests and the post-tests examined that the students in the EC have obviouslyimproved their practical writing proficiency, while the subjects in the CC have not had obviousimprovements in their practical proficiency. The comparison between the pre-questionnaires and thepost-questionnaires showed that the students in the EC have obviously improved their attitudes towardspractical writing , but the subjects in the CC have not had obvious change their attitudes towards practicalwriting.

Conclusion

Based on analysis of the results of the subjects’ writings, some enlightenment can be obtained fromthis study. This chapter first presents major findings of the study and then it points out the limitations of thepresents study. And finally, it presents some suggestions for future study.Through three-month experiment, the outcomes of the experiment illustrate that recitation-imitationmethod applied in vocational schools is more effective than the traditional method. Most of the students inthe experiment class have mastered the format of practical writing, and they make fewer errors in meaningexpression, structure and they can write a formal and complete practical.Based on the statistical results,significant progress was made in the experiment in post-test. Specifically, the application ofrecitation-imitation method is helpful for the students to improve their writing proficiency which makesthem quickly in constructing phrases, sentences and passages. The major findings are presented as follows.Firstly, the students’ average score is 8.3556, with an increase of 1.71111 on basis of its pretest.
