efore, research on senior high school English teachers’ teaching reflection possesses great significance both in theory and in practice.Up to now, a large number of researches on teachers’ teaching reflection have been done in western countries as well as in China. The previous studies were mainly theoretical researches (Dewey 1933; Schon 1983, 1987; Valli 1990; Akbari 2007; Wu Jihong 2003) which were about the definition of reflection, the classification of reflection and the relationship between reflection and teachers’ professional development. Some overseas scholars used both quantitative and qualitative methods to explore the ways of fostering teachers’ reflective abilities. However, among the previous studies, few are based on empirical studies. Moreover, there are rare studies on senior high school English teachers’ teaching reflection in our country. It is known that senior high school English teaching is a difficult and complicated procedure. This teaching situation is caused by many factors, such as, the qualities of the students, the learning context, the teaching methods and the teachers’ educational concepts. The students and teachers in senior high schools face the college entrance examination which is very important for the students and the family.

Chapter Literature ReviewⅡ
This chapter reviews the relevant literature on reflection. It begins with the definition of reflection, which lays a foundation for the following parts. Then it moves to the content, type, level, process of reflection as well as the influencing factors of teachers’ reflection. Later the theoretical basis for reflection is talked about. At last, it talks about the relevant studies on reflection both at home and abroad.
2.1 The Basic Concepts of Reflection
Since 1980s, “reflection” and “reflective teaching” have gradually been highlighted in the area of educational reform and teachers’ professional development. It is considered as an important way to the self-development of teachers. “Reflection” is a philosophical concept in early time. Many people have talked about reflection, such as Plato. Locke (1959) saw reflection as the consciousness of personal mental state. From his point of view, reflection is thinking about thinking. Spinoza(1960) regarded reflection as a more advanced way of knowing the truth. He took his epistemology as “reflection on knowledge” which was also called “cognition of conception”.
