allow automatic calculation of the QA results, which does not only make the work quicker, but it also greatly reduces the risk of human errors in the process and pinpoints specific problem areas very visibly.

QA templates
The following QA form templates are found in the directory “qaforms” on the LISA QA Metrics disk:

How to use the QA form templates
There are two template versions for each QA type, a short one and a long one. The file names indicate which is which by using “sht” or “lng” as the last three letters, e. g. “prdoclng” (the long version of the template for printed documentation). They work in exactly the same way and will produce the same results whichever one is used. The longer one simply goes into to more detail about the error types, which means that it may take slightly longer to enter the information, but will on the other hand produce more detailed information about QA.
Please note that the templates supplied may need to be adjusted to specific situations. This is perhaps particularly for software QAs, where different clients are likely to have different approaches, for example with regards to whether a vendor is requested to perform functional QAs or not.

1. Perform QA in normal way, marking errors on hardcopy. It is recommended to use some form of code to categorize errors into the types listed in the templates. There are checklists described later in this section and also supplied on the accompanying disk, which describe recommended codes.
2. Open the appropriate QA form template, save as a separate document to your preferred location and give it a recognisable file name.
Note: See “QA template samples” later in this chapter for a visual representation of the design of the spreadsheet templates.
3. Start by entering the general information (product name, version, etc.) on the first worksheet (language). This information will automatically be reflected in the other three worksheets (formatting, functionality and summary), so that you don’t have to re-enter the information.
Note: Enter information only in the areas shaded in grey. Other parts are either fixed, or generated automatically.
