摘要:通过检索中国英语学习者语料库,我们发现,在学生的作文中的错误有多种。本文旨在研究了冗余错误。

collected by computer and analyzedmanually, which is superior to the previous researches conducted by experimentalmethod. This automatic method can somehow avoid some limitations of traditionalmethods.Contrastive analysis and error analysis are applied to analyze the possible causesfor redundancy errors. The analysis shows the transfers from mother tongue and targetlanguage are the biggest interference. Meanwhile, the statistics trace the relationshipbetween the occurrence of redundancy errors and L2 learners" English proficiency,which is of great help both for the teachers and the learners to make improvementaccordingly. What's more, redundancy errors, in some sense, offer the evidences of howlanguage is acquired, which implies the acquisition stage of the learners. To some extent,redundancy error can help learners to discover the rules of target language.


1.2 Research Questions研究问题
In the present study, we focus on the analysis of the redundancy errors committedby Chinese college EFL learners at different English proficiencies. Thus the followingquestions are addressed:1) What are the major types of redundancy errors in Chinese ESL learners* writingfrom CLEC?2) How do the major types of redundancy errors distribute in the sub-corpora?3) What are the possible causes of the redundancy errors made by EFLs fromCLEC?4) Is there any relationship between the occurrence of redundancy errors and L2learners' English proficiency?


1.3 Organization of the Thesis论文结构
The main body of the thesis is organized into six chapters.At the beginning of this thesis, the writer states the purpose and significance ofpresent study and raises the four research questions.In the second chapter, a historical review is made. It includes redundancy,interlanguage, contrastive analysis theory, error analysis theory and corpus linguistics.In addition, a clear definition and classification of redundancy errors are introduced inthis chapter, which prepare for the research process in Chapter Four and integratedanalysis of students' redundancy errors in Chapter Five.In Chapter Three, a corpus-based approach is described in detail. The errors taggedwd5 in CLEC are treated as data source. And the research methods of the present study,such as data sources and general steps,are included in this chapter.The manifestations of redundancy errors are listed in Chapter Four, and each typeof redundancy is further divided. It presents detailed statistics and gets results ready forI further discussion in the next chapter.II Based on the findings made above. Chapter Five tries to find the possible causes ofII redundancy errors. The analysis suggests that the main causes are the interferences from: mother tongue and target language. And specific explanations are given to the typicalI redundancy errors.IThe last chapter puts the theoretical discussion into practical implication. ItI‘ provides some pedagogical implication. Limitations of the present study andI recommendations for further studies are also presented in this chapter.
