　　As mentioned in Chapter 1.1.2, China English is a variety of the original English. Atpresent, the study of CE has mainly occurred in mainland China while the related linguisticresearches abroad have focused on “Englishes” which is the plural form of English and isrepresented by CE. Thishas been always one of the focal issues in English-research community and aroused the Quirk—Kachru debate.Monostandard of English languageAmong the scholars who insist that there is only one standard English, Randolph Quirk, afamous linguist  British, is the pioneer. In his paper "Language Varieties and StandardLanguage" published in English Today (1990:6), Quirk made comment on Kingman Report andannounced that, during its developing process English has gave rise to kinds of regional varietieswhich can not be simply lumped with British English or American English. On the one hand,Quirk stressed the importance of standard English, claiming that in English learning everyvariety beyond it will be incorrect.
