Loan Translation for Semantic BorrowingFor the things and incidents concerning the history, culture and politics of China,the corresponding words and phrases are translated into English by means ofword-by-word translation, such as “Four Books，，（四书），“Five Classics，，（五经），"Chinese herbal medicine"(中药)，“paper tiger"(纸老虎)，"cultural revolution"(文化大革命)，"iron rice bowl"(铁饭碗).People should notice that the conciseness andgenerality of loan translation is irreplaceability.Chinese and English share different culture background. Because of the similarityof folksiness，instructiveness and artistry, sometimes the Chinese ideas are directlytranslated into English, like “实事求是” (seeking truth from facts), "the tiger's ass isnot to be touched"(老虎的屁股摸不得）and “it takes more than one cold day for theriver to freeze three feet deep" (JJiK冻三尺非一日之寒).This kind of China English iseasy for foreigners to understand, thus narrowing the gap between Chinese and Englishnative speakers.

　　
　　1.3 Purpose of the Thesis论文的目的
　　The motivation the study of this thesis comes from the author's interests ofdiscourse studies in China. Discourse studies have already been popular in China forabout twenty years and M.A.K Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar is regarded asone of the hot guiding theories to conduct discourse studies, in Functional Grammarlanguage is believed to have three meta-functions: ideational, interpersonal and textualfunction. This thesis focuses on the analysis of the interpersonal function of ChinaEnglish. Interpersonal function means that people use language to interact with otherpeople, to establish and maintain relations with them and then influence their behavior，and to express their viewpoints. The analysis of the interpersonal function of ChinaEnglish will lead more and more people to accept and use a certain language, especialsome varieties of it. With the increasing of the Chinese international position, ChinaEnglish is gain increasing important for communication between the Chinese andforeigners in the fields of economy, politics, technology, etc. So it is worth enough toprobe into this particular genre. Finally, the study on China English is of greatsignificance to the study of linguistics and especially applied linguistics.

　　
　　1.4 Structure of the Thesis论文结构
　　Chapter One introduces English varieties and China English, which leads to thepurpose and structure of this thesis.Chapter Two mainly reviews the background and different approaches to ChinaEnglish, and briefly introduces Chinglish. Then an effort is made trying to distinguish-China English and Chinglish.Chapter Three is the theoretical foundation, introducing Halliday's systemicfunctional grammar, then reviewing the background and definition of interpersonalmeaning, and its different aspects of linguistic study.Chapter Four mainly analysis the interpersonal meaning of China English,choosing the identity function to prove the linguistic value of China English. Throughthe identity function to analysis China English's fianction in different fields, like indicateidentity in social life, explain some specific culture in outside communication and so on.Chapter Five is the conclusion to sum up all the chapters, revealing thesignificance and the shortage of this article.
