On the other hand,linguists admit that language is influenced by extralinguistc factors such as socialclass, gender and solidarity. For example, when we address a professor we addProfessor or Mr. to his or her surname while we use the first name or nickname whenwe greet our friends. The dissertation aims to find out Scarlett's language featurethat she uses tum-control strategies when she talks with various figures and explainthe reason of such phenomena from the perspective of sociolinguistics.

　　
　　1.1 The Rationale of the Study研究方向
　　Sacks, Schegloff and Jefferson consider conversation as speech-exchange systemand characterize tum-taking system on the basis of audio recordings of naturallyoccurring conversations. Based on the rules of tum-taking system summarized bySacks Jefferson and Schegloff, many scholars present the strategies for controlling theturns. In addition, sociolinguists admit that there exists the link between languageuse and social factors such as social class, gender and solidarity. People in societyare from different social classes. Some of them are men while some of them arewomen. Some people are alike in certain aspect while they are different in otheraspect. People who are influenced by such social factors must use languagedifferently. As an aspect of language, tum-control strategies used in conversationmake no exception. Therefore, research on turn-control strategies from theperspective of sociolinguistics can demonstrate how the tum-control strategies areinfluenced by social factors.As Wardhaugh (2000:16) says, sociolinguistic research is based on data andtheory and conclusions should be drawn from evidence. Besides, “sincesociolinguistics is an empirical science, it must be founded on an adequate data base”(Wardhaugh, 2000:17). In the present research, we employ literary data. Literarydata are as valid as naturally occurring conversation because conversation created bydramatist is similar to naturally occurring conversation. Li and Yu (2001) admit thatconversation analysis can be used in analyzing play. In this sense, literary data canbe used for conversation analysis. Du (2008) considers that literary conversationresembles naturally occurring conversation so literary data can be used forconversation analysis.Among so many literary works, we choose the film Gone with the Wind. Thereason is that the film is very significant. Firstly, Gone with the Wind is a 1939American historical epic film, winning 10 Academy Awards.
