摘要：本文是英语语言学论文。文章主要是从语言层次上探讨中英文之间的根本差异性，并通过研究两本中英文小说来分析语言相似性和差异性的根本原因。 aims to confirm the root cause of differences between English and Chinese on the linguistic level, to investigate the fundamental reasons for the similarities and differences between English and Chinese classical novels by looking into the two classical novels, and to specify the concrete representations of the root cause in theabove-mentioned novels.

(1996),language homogeneities are the premise and basis of the comparability of English andChinese, whereas language heterogeneities are the starting point and the ending point of thecontrastive study of these two languages. Therefore, top priority is given to the study ofheterogeneities between these two languages. Since 1898, when Ma Jianzhong’s masterpiece Ma’s Chinese Grammar was published,the contrastive studies of English and Chinese (Liu, 1991; Pan, 1997; He, 2002; Lian, 2011,etc.), following the footsteps of Ma, have claimed that there exists a dozen of differencesbetween English and Chinese, namely, hypotactic and paratactic, synthetic and analytic, rigid and supple, complex and simplex, static and dynamic, abstract and concrete, objectconsciousness and subject consciousness, holistic thinking and individual thinking, etc.However, as stated before, these dissimilarities are the superficial phenomena stemming fromthe following root cause which need to be addressed on the deep and profound level insection

2.2 Studies of Classical Novels
Obviously, each of the above-mentioned two novels is perhaps one of the mostwell-known classics in its literature. Therefore, a great number of scholars and researchershave conducted thousands of researches related to each of the original works. The generaloverview of the two classical novels is presented as follows. As stated before, Le Morte d'Arthur is perhaps the best-known and the longestall-embracing version in English Arthurian literature. Therefore, there are a variety ofresearches related to this novel in the Western academic field. According to the Googlescholar , it is easy to find out that from 1800s to 2000s there are many sensational researchesof Le Morte d'Arthur ranging from politics to linguistics, such as The Political Bias ofMalory's Morte D'arthur (R. Griffith, 1974), Narrative Treatment of Name in Malory's MorteD'Arthur (B. Mahoney, 1980), Adultery in Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur ( B. Kennedy, 1998),Narrative Discourse Markers in Malory's Morte D'Arthur (M. Fludernik, 2000), and ThePresentation of Lancelot in Malory's' Le Morte Darthur (D. Wheeler, 2011). In addition,according to the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (hereafter CNKI), there are only15 researches in China ranging from 1984 to 2011 and none of them is from the viewpoint oflinguistics. However, it is surprising and inspirational to learn that in these 15 papers there aretwo researches which conduct a contrastive study between Le Morte d'Arthur and Outlaws ofthe Marsh: Tian Meili (2007) and Shi Song (2009).
