摘要:本文是英语论文范文。由于英语教学的重要性,关于什么样的最适合担任英语教学老师的辩论已经引起了全世界范围内学者的关注。Due to the important role of English teaching, the debate about the topic that who is abetter English teacher has attracted a global attention. Many scholars have done a lot ofresearches about the topic.

Chapter 1 Introduction


1.1 Background of the Study
In English teaching, both native English speakerteacher and non-native English speaker teacher play an important role. In recent years, thenumber of non-native English speaker is steadily increasing. Traditionally, learning andteaching a foreign language has been predicated on the distinction between native andnon-native speakers.[3]In recent years, in the filed of English teaching, a growing numberof teachers are non-native speaker teachers. Canagarajah[4]claims that in the world thereare 80% of word’s English language teachers who are non-native. And the number ofnon-native speaker teachers is still steadily increasing. From the concept ofnative-speakerism, the view that the NESTs are superior to the NNESTs is still prevalentand the NESTs are the models for the students to imitate. The authorities or even thecountries think that foreign language should be taught by the native speaker of thatlanguage. When they choose the English teachers for the students, they prefer the NESTsto the NNESTs and they insist to recruit native speaker of English. The question thatwhich one is a better English teacher has been debated since English becomes a worldEnglish and it has been taught all over the world. Are the NESTs superior to the NNESTs?Are the NESTs the real model for the students to imitate? There are lots of questions thatneed to be answered, many scholars have done a lot of researches that are relevant to thesequestions, and the researches about the differences between native and non-native Englishspeakers have come into our light.

1.2 Objective of the Study
Due to the important role of English teaching, the debate about the topic that who is abetter English teacher has attracted a global attention. Many scholars have done a lot ofresearches about the topic. They do the research to investigate the differences between thetwo kinds of English teachers, including the topic about the native and non-native Englishteachers’ self perception and authorities’ attitudes towards the two kinds of Englishteachers.[5]While the researches with the students as the subjective are relatively less,most of the researches are conducted in foreign countries, such as the North America andAustralia. Another important thing is that the results of the researches about the students’perceptions that are conducted in one country couldn’t be suitable to other countries.This aim of this research is to explore the students’ perceptions towards the nativeand non-native English teachers in one University in north part of China. In this research,the questionnaire and interview would be used to collect the data during the researchprocedure. The questions that what the students think of the differences between the twokinds of teachers and which kind of English teacher they prefer could be explored.
