By combining spontaneous and experimental data, the overarching goal of the present study is to explore whether and under what conditions does syntactic priming occur in children’s production, thereby enriching our understanding of SLI children’s syntactic acquisition and development.

CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW
This chapter is devoted t to reviewing the previous research on the ditransitive construction and syntactic priming. At the beginning of this chapter, the author tries to give definitions and classify different types of ditransitive constructions in both English and Chinese. Then the author goes on to illustrate main hypotheses concerning the ditransitive construction and syntactic priming. Studies both at home and abroad, with adults and children are referred to. Finally, focus of the present research is clarified.
2.1 Studies on the ditransitive construction
The ditransitive construction is a common phenomenon with different expressions in different human languages. In English, there are two typical sentence structures: (1) a. John gave Mary a book. b. John gave a book to Mary. It has been agreed by scholars that (1a) is the basic form of Double Object Construction (DOC) in English which means “the Subject cause Indirect Object (IO) to have Direct Object (DO)” while (1b) is a Dative Construction (DC) with the meaning that “the Subject cause DO to go to IO” (e.g. Pesetsky 1995, Harley 2003, Beck & Johnson 2004).

2.2 Studies on the syntactic priming
Syntactic priming in production (sometimes also called structural priming) refers to the tendency for people to reuse utterance structures which they have been exposed in the previous context. There are four basic paradigms of syntactic priming: sentence repetition & picture description paradigm, sentence-completion paradigm, sentence-recall paradigm and visual-world eye-movement paradigm. Previous research has revealed the existence of syntactic priming in different languages, different sentence structures, different groups of people and different registers of language. It has been demonstrated in speech production (Bock 1986), &
