4.1 General Introduction to the Corpus

4.1.1 Data Collection

The data for this study comes from 50 female cosmetic advertisements and 50 malecosmetic advertisements.Based on preliminary research,some internationally known brandsdid not differentiate between male and female cosmetic advertisements according to gender(or had fewer types of differentiated brands),so the author collected brands thatdifferentiated products according to gender,and the types of cosmetic products for differentgenders needed to be more than three to facilitate a more comprehensive study ofinterpersonal meaning,targeting focus to two internationally known brands:Chanel and Dior.Both brands enjoy a high profile in the international cosmetics market and are representativeand typical of the industry.Leading international trendsetters.Their target audience istypically people who value luxury,quality,and prestige,and who have the disposableincome to afford high-end beauty products.In terms of age range,Chanel and Dior maytarget a wide range of ages,from young adults to middle-aged and older-aged adults.Ingeneral,Chanel and Dior's cosmetic advertisements are likely to target regions or marketswith a high level of disposable income,where consumers are more likely to be able to affordtheir luxury products.Some of the regions where Chanel and Dior may focus theiradvertising efforts include North America,Europe,the Middle East,and Asia-Pacific.Within these regions,they may also focus on specific countries or cities that are known fortheir high-end fashion and beauty markets,such as Paris,New York,Tokyo,or Dubai.
