摘要:Of the five skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating, listening, as aninput, is a main means to gain information. With listening comprehension brought intoEnglish examinations at both high school and university levels, listening comprehensiondifficulties are increasingly attracted attention by parents, students, teachers and researchers.
In this chapter, the major findings from the questionnaire will be simply concluded. And in the following part pedagogical implications will be proposed to help studentsovercome the difficulties in listening comprehension. And the limitation and further researchperspective of this thesis will be shown at the last part.
5.1 Major findings of the study
From the questionnaire data analysis, it can be obviously shown that all the studentshave difficulties in all three phases — perception, parsing and utilization in listeningcomprehension process. The proportions of difficulties in the phase of perception, parsingand utilization are respectively 52.94%, 59.44% and46.32%. And there exist manydifficulties in the phases of perception and parsing. And Students from different levels have few differences in each cognitive process. Inperception, the proportions of senior high school students, college ones and postgraduateones are respectively 45.42%, 59.68% and 53.54%. In parsing, the proportions of senior highschool students, college ones and postgraduate ones are respectively 49.63%, 64.29% and64.39%. In utilization, the proportions of senior high school students, college ones andpostgraduate ones are respectively 44.85%, 48.57% and 45.45%. The difficulties of studentsare not changed with their learning levels. There is no obvious difference between males and females in listening comprehensiondifficulties. In perception, the proportions of males and females are 48.86% and 57.91%. Inparsing, the proportions of males and females are 52.75% and 65.87%. In utilization, theproportions of males and females are 45.50% and 47.12%. The females’ difficulties areslightly higher than those of males.
5.2 Pedagogical implications
In order to help students have an improvement in English listening comprehension, some suggestions will be proposed in this section. And some effective ways of helpingstudents improve their listening comprehension have been put forward by researchers.During the process of listening comprehension, the listeners can use a methodology to makepredictions according to the development of phonological code and effective use of contexts.(Brown, 1990) Buck (1995) suggests that it is useful to use pre-communicative andcommunicative activities which follow a pedagogical framework proposed by Littlewood(1981). It is an approach proposed by Field that takes learners’ listening difficulties metduring the process of listening comprehension into consideration and suggests scientificways of practicing listening skills in short micro-listening exercises. (Field, 1998, p. 110-118)
5.3 Limitations of the study
Although this study gets a finding that during the listening comprehension process thedifficulty in phase of parsing is an obstacle which prevents the listeners having a betterlistening comprehension. Yet some limitations still exist. Here the author proposes them forthe further study.First, the study takes 102 students including 34 senior high school students, 35 collegestudents and 33 postgraduate students as the research subjects. The size of the sample isrelatively small. The focus of this study is on the students of different level and each levelthe author chooses in a random way without a strict condition. So in the further study, thesize of a relatively big sample is needed. Se本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
