eir everlasting increase in the wages of domestic laborers, they could not win in the game on this contested terrain of the world market. The less advanced countries could just produce cheaper. In solving the problem, they would have to look for new ways of deepening the internationalization of the production process in transforming themselves from domestic based manufacturers into global investors.
Naturally, the internal factors have speeded up the technological development of advance capitalist countries. Such numerous terms as “the Scientific-Technological Revolution”, “the Micro Electric Revolution”, “Computer Aided Design”, “Factory Automation,” “Office Automation”, “Computer Integrated System”, and “the Flexible Manufacturing System” etc. were related with the technological advance at that time. Although Daniel Bell (1973) already predicted the advent of “Post-Industrial Society” that would come true in some advanced societies after 25 years since then, people all over the world in 1990s became accustomed to the new jargon such as “the Post-Fordist Accumulation System”, which is related to the mass customization reflecting the changing tastes and preference of ordinary people, “the Third Wave”, “the Post-Capitalist Society”, “the Information Society”, “Computerization of Society” etc.
On the other hand, the external factors urged the advanced societies to widen the world market, and to replace the existing world economic order that had been dominated by the GATT system with the new WTO system. At first, early in the 1970s, the USA came into contact with China who had been in trouble with the economic problems after the Cultural Revolution. And after the breakdown of East European socialist countries including USSR in 1980s, the USA came to have the supreme power in the world economy. Since then, the USA and its followers in Western Europe have come to us as the missionaries of Globalization, and the entire world, even the socialist countries should be forced to gather under the ban of neo-liberalism.

Before we can continue in showing the developments and trends of globalization in the second half of the twentieth century, we need to explain, marking-off and present another term, that is to say the relatively new expression known as the “Information Society”. This term is in fact a Japanese invention. It found its way to the West after Simon Nora and Alan Minc mentioned about it in a note to the Prime Minister of France in 1978. Before that, it was brought up for the first time by Tadao Umesao in an article about an evolutionary theory of the society which is based on the density of “information industries” as topic (Castells, 1998: 236-237). Many theorists are presenting their own definitions about the meaning of the term “information society” which don't match with each other. Castells has added to theories of the information society the idea that in contemporary society, dominant functions and processes are increasingly organized around networks that constitute the new social morphology of society (Castells 2000: 500). He points out that his approach is based on dialectics of technology and society in which technology embodies society and society uses technology (Castells 2000: 5). But Castells also makes clear that the rise of a new “mode of development” is shaped by capitalist production, i.e. by society, which implies that technology is
