ment employ, the education and the training that the employees (members) of the SACCO receive from the management as well as the nature of business that the members of the SACCO engage in.

The presence or absence of long term investments also determines the performance of the SACCO as indicated by the respondents in the questionnaire. The response was high enough to enable a generalization of the findings to cover for all the SACCOs under study.

5.2 Conclusions

Considering the responses that were received, the following conclusions can be made.

5.2.1 Education and training

96% of the respondents indicated that the employee education and training affected the performance of the SACCO which means that the SACCOs performance is dependent on the education and training of the staff, committee members and general members. Education and training is considered by the employees and the members of the SACCOs as critical in their performance as it would provide new information and skills which enhance performance by the members.

5.2.2 Management of SACCO

The response by the 56% of the respondents that they were not satisfied with the management of the SACCO needs to be considered seriously as it can lead to the collapse of the SACCO. The respondents said that the performance of the SACCOs was just fair with others indicating that their SACCOs were just performing poorly. They indicated that the management of SACCOs should seriously consider professional officials to enhance better performances as if poor management is placed then there is going to be lower performance of the SACCO

5.2.3 Long Term Investments

The respondents also indicated that the presence or absence influenced the performance of the SACCO. 95% of the respondents indicated that the SACCOs had long term investments which helped members to acquire property which they would not have otherwise acquired. The respondents said that their SACCOs provided houses, plots and other properties to the members.

5.2.4 Nature of Business

75% of the respondents indicated that their SACCOs had the check off system which enhanced their contribution to the SACCOs. It was only respondents from one SACCO that indicated that they did not have a check off system. The respondents also indicated that the absence or presence of a check off system influenced the amount and regularity of the contributions by the members. Thus there is need to enhance a check off system for the members so as to enhance their contributions.

5.3 Recommendations

The study provided a fertile ground to understand the factors that influence the performance of SACCOs within Eldoret. The conclusion made thereof provides a basis for these recommendations. The management of these SACCos should refocus their attention to these as they provide a backbone for their performances.
