The respondents were also asked about their opinions regarding specific statements to which they responded as tabulated below. Majority of the respondents indicated that they strongly agreed with the statement. There was a general indication that all the SACCOs engaged in business planning had rules and procedures, budgeting is done, there is an existing organizational structure and that the employees know their reporting channels. However, majority of the respondents had different opinions regarding the employees having performance target. Majority of them indicated that they disagreed with the statement.


Where SDA- Strongly Disagree, DA- Disagree, N- Neutral, A- Agree, SA - Strongly Agree that the employees do know the reporting channels within the SACCO.


4.2.4 Education and Training


On the side of Education and training for the SACCO members, the 44 of the respondents indicated that they had training within their SACCOs. The other 12 respondents however indicated otherwise. 50 respondents indicated that the training was done once or twice a year whereas the other 6 stated that it is done once after 2 years. When asked whether the education or training of the SACCO members was of any significance, 86% affirmed that it improved the performance of the members whereas the other 14% thought otherwise (table 4.9 and figure 4.7)

As the members consented the fact that the training was important, they also indicated that the training improved the performance through greater understanding the SACCO issues, enhanced capacities of the members regarding investment and management of the borrowed funds. They further indicated that the members increased their savings through share contribution through education and training on the importance of contribution of higher amounts of shares. They also indicated that the members are able to know their rights as Members of the SACCO.


The respondents also responded to the statements as asked and their answers were not that varied as they responded to the various statements in table 4.10. 45 respondents indicate that the performance of the SACCOs depended on the skills that the staff possessed, 32 strongly disagreed with the statement that training needs Analysis is being conducted in their SACCOs and 46 of them disagreed with the fact that employees are being trained. However, 35 and 16 agreed and strongly disagreed respectively when asked whether the employees were given seminars or workshops.
