Choosing my co-researchers

This phase of my research was unarguably the most evolving. At the 'making of' the research road-map, the intention was to do a comparative research of two 'distinct' organisations to inquire about the trends of workplace learning. These organisations were going to be my current employer (Economic Community of West African States) - a public sector international organisation, and KPMG - a 'big-four' audit and advisory firm.

Demonstrating a lot of energy and passion, I delved right into the contracting phase of my intended Co-operative Inquiry by obtaining the needed approval from my boss. She was pleased to have me set-up a co-operative inquiry group within the Human Resources team. I also went ahead to write to KPMG to request for the same but eventually got no reply.

As time ticked off, I retreated to the drawing board when I understood there might never come a response from KPMG and also, the Human Resources team in my organisation had a lot of activities planned out for the next months. I resorted therefore to sourcing a new inquiry group.

Keeping in mind the objective of this research, I explored useful options and sooner than later, found a team who could join me in a co-operative inquiry. I found the Ikeja Branch of Adecco Nigeria Limited - an organisation focused on providing staffing services - where a team of five consultants work together in a fast-paced environment to meet clients' needs. The team's features also appeared outstanding with features that typify the next generation of workforce. The eventual resolution was to then invite the Adecco team into a co-operative inquiry group, explore together (through second-person inquiry) the critical success factors that enhance collaborative learning in the workplace and subsequently compliment this learning with my first-person inquiry.
