The team's leadership however, recommended a prior case-study on the SAP Team which had, in existence, a system that promotes informal learning. I, therefore, went ahead to conduct a research focused on exploring how new recruits learn from 'older' team-members in an environment where knowledge was highly dynamic, forcing practitioners to constantly keep abreast of current trends. The research process was insightful and provided useful information for the team.


After this experience, my entire career life has thus far been lived as an inquiry. Needful to mention that I have had an 'unusual' career history having work with seven different organisations within six years, with each organisation offering me a unique experience. Each had its distinct features - people, office lay-out, organisational culture, average age-band and so on. I learnt to understand the peculiarity of each workplace to help me thrive successfully in each of the organisation.


Over the years, I have continuously found myself on a first-person inquiry of my learning process and factors surrounding its success. I had overly questioned the effect of the organisational culture, team members' personality, office lay-out et cetera, on my learning. However, this has not been properly analysed or compared to the experience of others in order to deduce quality data good enough to make conclusions. This Project work comes across as an opportunity to carry-out a proper study to research an area I had always had a keen interest in. This is perhaps an opportunity to answer my lingering questions and possibly establish some facts about Collaborative Learning.


The Process: Reflecting and Writing my stories 表达和书写我的故事


Prior to the first workshop of the MAMLL 28, I had a 'raw' understanding of Collaborative Learning with no insight into the concepts and theories that explains it. The pre-workshop readings surprisingly did not help much because I found myself a little bit more confused as I tried to initiate familiarity with the 'academic terms'. The first assignment (SP1) was perhaps the defining moment - an opportunity that helped me to start to build a bridge between my 'area of passion' and its 'existing body of knowledge'. My task was to review two past research-writings related to learning in the workplace with the intent of exploring the view of past writing on how informal learning occurs in the workplace.


After writing the paper, I could marry 'practice' with 'theory' and found better ways of understanding my 'unstructured' inquiry into workplace learning. I understood what Communities of Practice were; had better understanding terms like tacit knowledge, explicit knowledge, learning organisation, action learning and action science, giving me the theoretical insight into what had become my 'area of passion'.


As intended, Workshop Two gave me insights into research methodologies most especially Action Research. Once I had some idea of the shape my Project might take, I started to single out research methods that will prove useful to my Project. Having learnt about first-person inquiry, I subsequently practiced of the art of journaling in a bid to capture my stories.
