CHAPTER Ⅰ Introduction Compared with the older ways of operation of news generating and news consuming, the news in the digital age definitely has something that is totally different from what has been traditionally accepted by the general public. For example, in the earlier ages of British media, due to the limitation of both technology and social needs, the business of newspaper was completely handled by the intellectuals. The general public, usually excluded from the mainstream cultural life of the society, seemed to be somewhat indifferent to what was going on around them. However, in the new age, with the profound changes of both technological innovation in communication and the changes of news conceptions of the public, there is a strong tendency for people to participate in the whole business of spreading news and sharing opinions. (Charles Niue, 2005) Take the Internet for example, more and more people nowadays have shown a keenness to express themselves by using different channels of news releasing on the web. As a result, in this age of information explosion, conceptions of news have also changed significantly. First of all, such a change is reflected in the role of news agencies. As is proved by the practices of media of various kinds in different countries, the role of news agencies is now undergoing a profound change. Culturally, news agencies in the digital age use sources of news about how people in different nations are acting according to both the customs of their own nation and the requirements of the universally accepted social values of the world today. So, the role of news agencies in this age is considered to be the promotion of such beliefs of human values. Technically, the methodology of dealing with the news generating and news distribution also changes with the invention of news channels. (Jim Morrison, 2001) So, to summarize, news agencies in the globalized age is facing the problem of how to deal with the problems concerning the integration and conflicts arising from the exchange of different cultures of different nations as well as how to effectively use the technical advantage. Due to the rapid development of communicative technologies, global news transmission is now requiring close co-operation of international agencies of various kinds.
